Computers, Protection, Internet, Wireless LAN, Stand alone PC or Notebook
Doing business on the Internet involves in most cases a permanent or regular connection of your personal computer with the Internet. For security reasons I recommend that you use - if you can afford to do so - a stand alone PC (or notebook) or at least a separate disk for this very purpose. Never expose your valuable business and/or personal files stored in other computers or backup devices to the threat of hackers, viruses, Trojan programs. For more info on PC security click here
Directories, FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
When we design and construct a website, we are tempted to see it live so that corrections can be made if necessary. If we have our website building tools installed on another PC, let's make a copy of the website created and upload it through our dedicated computer with a file manager program of our host or ftp it to our directory. (Note: with a file manager of your host, you have to select the files to be uploaded one by one, whilst ftp allows you to select and upload (or even download) and manage multiple files or even directories at once. Before creating your website, you had better establish a filing system organized according to your concept and to the structure of the website. If you have the copy of your entire website in your PC, it is practical to use the same directory names and file names. This way relative linking is made easier and you can transfer your files more efficiently.
